Situated at the Center of India in Nagpur, the Regional Ayurveda Research Institute (RARI) is a distinguished peripheral institute of the Central Council for Research in Ayurvedic Sciences (CCRAS), an autonomous body under the Ministry of AYUSH, Government of India. Established in 1972 as the Regional Research Centre (Ayurveda), the institute began its journey with the Survey of Medicinal Plants Unit (SMPU) and Mobile Clinical Research Unit (MCRU).

Brief Introduction

Situated at the Center of India in Nagpur, the Regional Ayurveda Research Institute (RARI) is a distinguished peripheral institute of the Central Council for Research in Ayurvedic Sciences (CCRAS), an autonomous body under the Ministry of AYUSH, Government of India.
Established in 1972 as the Regional Research Centre (Ayurveda), the institute began its journey with the Survey of Medicinal Plants Unit (SMPU) and Mobile Clinical Research Unit (MCRU). Over the years, it evolved significantly:
  • 1999: Upgraded to Regional Research Institute (Ayurveda), expanding research with SMPU, THCRP, and Clinical Research at both OPD and IPD levels.
  • 2006: Relocated to its own sprawling 7806 Sq. Mt. campus, equipped with state-of-the-art facilities.
  • 2016: Renamed Regional Ayurveda Research Institute for Mother & Child Health, emphasizing maternal and child healthcare research.
  • 2020: The institute was officially renamed Regional Ayurveda Research Institute (RARI) on 22nd December, with a fully functional NABH-accredited 16-bed IPD hospital providing specialized Ayurvedic treatments.

CCRAS

The Central Council for Research in Ayurvedic Sciences (CCRAS) is an autonomous body of the Ministry of AYUSH (Ayurveda, Yoga & Naturopathy, Unani, Siddha and Homeopathy), Government of India. It is an apex body in India for the formulation, coordination, development and promotion of research on scientific lines in Ayurveda and Sowa-Rigpa system of medicine.
